Structure :
The Ghibli is predominantly of steel construction,
with a range of high-strength and
ultra-high-strength material and with considerable
aluminium inclusion to achieve a
near 50:50 weight distribution. This includes
aluminium castings in the front structure for
rigidity and to support multiple crash force
load paths, together with a cross-brace
for rigidity, with steel support members.
The Ghibli sits on a reduced Quattroporte
platform, with a 2998mm wheelbase (173mm
less than the Quattroporte), with a vehicle
kerb weight of 1810kg.
The A and B post reinforcements and the
sill-reinforcement are of hot-formed UHSS.
All four doors, boot lid and the bonnet are
of aluminium, as are the majority of the
suspension components including the hub
carriers and wishbones. The front and rear
bumper beams are of extruded aluminium.
The instrument panel beam has been produced
from magnesium to further reduce
front end weight.
